As the sun goes down and the sky darkens, Poole will light up with an array of free exhibitions, shows and activities to get involved with.
From 6pm-10pm Thursday 20th to Saturday 22nd February, there will be free art installations dotted around the paths that lie between the Dolphin Shopping Centre and the Quay. The attractions are split up into different zones, each with their own set of exhibitions. The walk around the zones is designed to take around 1.5hours, perfect for an exciting evening stroll.
One of the features taking place this year is an open-air silent disco in Faulkland Square. Here, you can pick up a pair of LED headphones and listen to songs that have been especially picked out by local DJ’s that are perfect for showcasing your dance moves, at any age or ability!
You can get involved and make your own contribution to the fantastic festival through making your own light in the community chandelier. Organised by light artist, James Smith, you are invited to come and create your own colour-filled jar on Poole Quay. When added to the others produced, your jar helps create a stunning chandelier of colour and demonstrates a celebration of what can be produced as a result of different people coming together. At the end of the evening, you can collect your jar and take it home to act as a reminder of your belonging in the community.
Also lining the edge of Poole Quay is the already impressive sea music sculpture. For this 3-day festival, the sculpture will be lit up by a series of glowing coloured shells. If you can get close enough, you will hear the thoughts about what the sea means from the voices that maybe aren’t so well heard from, which may give you an entirely new perspective on how lucky we are to have such a beautiful coastline.
New for 2020, there are ticketed events where you can find out more from guest speakers. These range from an insight into the story of Mathmos Lava Lamps, made in Poole since 1963 from its owner, Cressida Granger, to an exploration into the art of telling stories using light with Michael Grubb from Michael Grubb studios.
You can have a look at the website to find out more about what is going on and to make sure you don’t miss out on the amazing opportunity to explore your creativity and to celebrate the beauty of light in the glorious seaside town.
