Although Jersey’s position makes it a hotspot for fresh seafood, the plush farming lands mean that the island also boasts plenty of homegrown vegetables, varying with the seasons to create delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Unawatuna is the name of a small fishing village in the south west of Sri Lanka, popular with tourists and known for its beautiful beaches. Chef Sudu was brought up in Sri Lanka, 5 hours north of the fishing village and still uses the recipes his mother taught him. The menu has many vegetarian and vegan dishes, all with the unique Sri Lankan flavours including beetroot sambul, wattakka (pumpkin) and kadala, a chickpea and spinach curry.

Park House Thai is one of the best Thai places in Jersey, with an impressive menu where you can find vegetarian options for all their best-selling dishes such as Thai yellow curry and vegetables in a black bean sauce with coconut rice. There are set menus with the option to substitute for vegetarian dishes, as well as a range of sides that can make a fantastic vegetarian feast that even meat-lovers will enjoy!

The Green Olive Restaurant is located on the first floor above ‘So Bar’ and prides itself on serving up unique vegetarian dishes made using the ingredients from local Jersey farmers. You’ll find options such as a beetroot and tomato-whipped goats cheese salad, along with a tasty chickpea and cauliflower curry served with saffron biryani rice. For dessert, if a vegan coconut panna cotta can’t tempt you, maybe the apple treacle tart will?

De L’Etang is a friendly taverna with gorgeous views from the sunny patio facing the sea. The taverna has a fusion of Greek and international dishes with a delicious selection of mezze on offer where you can order multiple smaller dishes for the whole table to share including hummus, pitta bread and tzatziki as well as some bigger dishes like halloumi and vegetable kebabs.

The Cock and Bottle is in a brilliantly central location in St Helier offering traditional pub food in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. On the menu, you’ll find classic pub grub with a few vegetarian and vegan options that stand out as being some of the pub’s most popular dishes. Examples include a spinach, halloumi and hummus wrap, or a crunchy avocado baguette with Asian slaw. Its outdoor seating makes it a great place for people watching on a warm summer day, and its cosy indoor dining area makes it also a fantastic option for a warming winter meal on those cooler days.

Noya Shapla is a family business that provides St Aubin with delicious tastes from India and Bangladesh. India is said to have the highest proportion of vegetarians in its population, and because of this, you can be sure that there are many tasty and delicious vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. There is a vegetarian option for all their house specialty curries, as well as an array of vegetarian starters and sides including onion bahjis and vegetable pakoras.

Casa Mia is one of St Helier’s friendly and welcoming authentic Italian restaurants serving up fresh and delicious Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. As well as the incredible fish and meat courses, Casa Mia also has an array of vegetarian pizzas, pastas and risottos to choose from, as well as a few vegetarian starters; think button mushrooms stuffed with camembert cheese or a warming cannelloni Fiorentina.

The Ocean Restaurant at The Atlantic Hotel has a menu greatly influenced by its gorgeous setting right on the coast, with grand white American style shutters showcasing views looking over the hotel gardens and sea. Head chef Will Holland uses his passion for flavour and local produce to create dishes that capture a true taste of the island including dishes such as goats cheese mousse, fresh hand-rolled tagliatelle, and a creamy mushroom duxelles pithivier.

Bracewell’s is a cosy restaurant located in the heart of St Aubin and its relaxed atmosphere, freshly cooked food and well-thought-out menus makes it a popular haunt for visitors and locals. Many items on the menu can be ordered as starters or smaller portions, as well as larger portions to cater for all appetites. Although there is an array of fresh seafood and meat options, there are several vegetarian and vegan dishes including risotto, tagliatelle and a warming beetroot soup.

Cheffin’s at The Beaumont Inn is a hidden gem serving delicious food in a relaxed and attentive environment. The menu has a range of dishes to choose from, whether you want to indulge in a 3 course Sunday lunch or choose a selection of tapas for the table to share. Cheffin’s prides itself on the freshness of its ingredients, and the dishes on the menu can be adapted on request to cater for smaller appetites and fussy eaters. However, if the bang bang noodles and roast padron peppers don’t tempt you, we don’t know what will.
